Our Cacao
Great cocoa beans or cacao, are the very heart and soul of chocolate. It tells the story of every bar, and depending on where the beans come from, every story is different.
It first starts with place. While most cocoa beans are grown on the equator, there is a world of difference in precisely where the beans are cultivated. This is where the craft and commitment of the farmers come in. The best among them distil generations of experience of their land so they know how to best coax unique, wonderful flavours.
That’s why we travel the world to meet, connect and learn from these passionate growers.
Relationships matter, and so too is our intent to treat farmers with respect & pay them well for their cocoa beans. After all, their stuff is the best in the world and the only way we can craft uniquely delicious chocolate. It’s the first great chapter of the story.
Sourcing Cacao – Our 4 Rules
Along the way, we’ve developed some guidelines on how we, or people we trust, engage with farmers:
1) Farmers receive better appreciably than Fair Trade prices
2) Cacao is grown sustainably
3) Cacao is farmed ethically and humanely – no child labour
4) We do the right thing.
